Forged rollers are used in almost all units & applications in the metallurgy industry. The material of the rollers is generally selected based on dynamic loading & wear. Forged carbon & alloy steel rollers are very popular on account of their excellent strength. Based on application, forged rollers are used in normalized condition or with the barrel heat treated or coated with specialty coating.
Forged roller, cradle roller, approach table roller, table roller, foot roller, bending unit roller, mould roller, mold roller, cassette roller, pinch roller, drive roller, straightener roller.
The forged steel rollers are mission critical & the materials have to be suited for the application under consideration. The soundness of the forged roller is critical for effective functioning of the equipment. The roller should withstand the dynamic load & resist wear & abrasion. This will reduce downtime & enhance steel metal product quality.
The dynamic load, wear & temperature are key properties to be considered for material selection. The materials which can withstand the process condition maintain the surface finish with minimal wear should be selected. For certain applications, the barrel can be coated with specialty coatings which will enhance surface finish or elevated temperature performance.
The rollers are ND tested (in proof machined condition) to determine surface / internal defects. The test coupons (using the same lot / heat as the materials) are destructively tested to determine critical physical properties. The tests prescribed by the appropriate standards are carried out. After completion of testing, the roller barrel may be heat treated or coated with a specialty coating. After finishing, various parameters such as TIR, hardness, geometry, etc. are measured & recorded.
After all quality parameters are satisfactorily met, a coat of anti-rust chemical is applied all over the roller. The roller can be assembled with bearings, bearing housings, etc. The entire roller is suitably wrapped with a runner. The rollers are packed in individual sea-worthy wooden boxes (or as mutually agreed).
